We've just returned from 5 days at Hook Point, a windswept beach on the gulf coast of Hinchenbrook Island. After 3 months of unheard of heat, we got to experience one of the worst storms of the summer! But, we loved the beach, and will be returning. If weather is good, there is no need to fly to Hawaii. It's the ultimate destination for 2 small boys, a big dog, and two tired parents.
Brian was our pilot!
Maggie did great in the plane, and Peter was soo excited to be in a small plane for the first time.
Big, windswept beach
We weren't trying to look like pirates!
Lots of beach combing
And, bestest of all, boogie-boarding! The water was totally doable in wetsuits, and the gradual slope and surf were safe for us all. Peter borrowed Ria's wetsuit, and loved it!
Then, the rain and wind hit.. and the cabin started to feel a little small and dark. We usually love weather cabin days to read, write, knit... but, not with a three year old bouncing off the walls!
Digging in the wind and rain.
Our last day was super foggy. Magical.
Surreal surfing in the fog
Jumping for Joy!
We were hoping that the fog would prevent the plane coming to get us.. but, it slowly burned off
Maggie meets a crab
Running from the surf to the plane!
Back at home we continued the water theme. Jumping in at high tide.
It's been a great year for berries. And, thankfully there have been alot in the woods behind the house.
Peter turned three while I was on St. George. He had an extended birthday celebration... pancakes and swimming with Dustin on his actual birthday, our Hook Point adventure, and a lagoon family get-together with chocolate cake. He's growing up tall and full of life, with a great sense of humor.
