Dustin has been telling me stories about his special time in Guatemala (when he was in his 20s)-- every since we've met. A family guatemala trip has been a talked about dream for years, and this year- we jumped. We spent 5 weeks in Guatemala, it wasn't an easy holiday.. and it was exhausting in many ways, but it was a very rich time and we're so thankful to have spent time with Dustin's Mayan family and learned a little more about this beautiful country. The boys already have plans to go back!
We started our trip in San Pedro on Lake Atilan. Based out of an Airbnb, we spent our mornings at Cooperativa Spanish School and our afternoons exploring the town and the lake coast, practicing our Spanish, and acclimatizing to a new way of life. Adjusting to noise and people, navigating markets, learning to cook, enjoying the beautiful murals, appreciating agriculture and football games, and gradually becoming more relaxed in the vibrancy and life of this place.
Here's our Spanish School, the Cooperativa Spanish School in San Pedro la Laguna. We were individually taught in outdoor classrooms in a beautiful garden. It was a peaceful oasis within the town, and a perfect place to learn both Spanish and also more about Mayan culture. Our teachers were amazing, and we all graduated!
Our difference in height, especially for Peter, was a constant theme on this trip
