Summer Pace

Summer is flying by, too fast.  

We've had some lovely hot weather for swimming in the lagoon and secret meadow.

Lots of fish processing.  The boys are really great at packing cans now.

Leif's chicken Bob got broody.  We got hold of 5 fertile eggs from a friend, and all hatched!  

Broody Bob has been an incredible mum, it's been fun to watch. 

Poor Leif had his worst fall, so far.

Some fun times in the lagoon.. swimming, making forts, playing croquet, gardening. 

The boys and I had a solo camping trip.  Dustin dropped us off on Observation Island to camp for a couple of nights.  Good tide-pooling, oyster catcher chicks, and time to explore the forest trails together.  The rocky beach wasn't as easy for the kids as sand, but it was a good adventure for the three of us.

Karin visited us, and introduced us to paddle boarding. Thanks Karin!

 I'm a convert!  It's an easy way to get both kids out on the water with minimal logistics.  Really fun. 

Peter LOVES it!  And, had some good solo sessions in the lake.

We had a fun adventure down the Eyak.  

We paddled a ways down, and then got towed back by good friends and their boat.

Peter decided to run the 5K race today during Salmon Jam.  He was escorted on the bus out to the start line, and Leif and I met him on the bike a few minutes after the start.  Peter ran the whole way, loved it, and was so proud.  I was very thankful for such a great community, it was a lot to juggle both kids at the race with Dustin away fishing, but we had lots of help.

Leif is growing... almost as tall as the posts on the beach

And, recently we've had some travel--tag-teaming work and the kids.  I had 3 days on Egg Island helping with the gull study again.  Great to do field work, and spend time with other biologists.  And, Dustin has been in Bristol Bay set-netting.  We have had 4 days of all together before Peter and I head out to St. George for Seabird Camp...
