We had a week as a family before Dustin left for Bristol Bay. We had high hopes of a back-packing trip together, but we ended up using a chunk of the time to catch up on life and prepare for our fishing and single-parenting stints (not sure which is most challenging...). I also got in some solo hikes, and we had a wonderful family hike together. It was a good week.
A solo hike up to Crater Lake. The alpine flowers were spectacular
A family hike up to Heney Ridge. A first for the boys. It took 8 hours round trip to the ridge, and was such a magical day. Leif was carried for the last mile. He charged the rest of the trail. And, it's a full body work-out for people with little legs... no simple steps.. it's all climbing and jumping and scrambling. Fun to be able to start doing these kinds of hikes together.
The 'big tree' about a mile into the trail
Through the meadows
Some great trail work
And, out into the open
To snow!
And, alpine pools for swimming. Heaven.
Sad to turn around and head home
Dustin left for fishing, and the boys and I have started to find our new groove together.
We had a magical day with a group of mums and kids up near the reservoir. We're so lucky to have such wonderful mothers, kids, and families to share adventures and parenting with here in Cordova.
Water fun has really taken off this year.
Lots of swimming and jumping in outside lakes and ponds.
Laura, Aaron and Hasaan came to visit for a week. We joined Tia and family on a hike to a pool on the ridge below Mt. Eyak. The kids rocked the trail. Another incredible day of clarity, beauty, and awe.
Our swimming destination
Leif's like a happy hippo in pools like this
We had Sora and Gannon with us, and met up with Chelsea and girls
Sora organized everyone in 'house' building, and there was an elaborate game that involved sand storms and rescues. I love groups of multi-age kids.
