The boys and I traveled back to England for five weeks this winter. We spent most of the time on the Isle of Wight, with mum and dad. Golden grandparent time for the boys.
The island is a paradise for kids, with endless beaches, bike trails, buses, and bakeries. There are endless trails to explore within a 10 mile radius, and we spent most of our time doing just that.
Here's a glimpse into that time:
Alice came over for a visit, my birthday, and a lovely long day ramble with the kids.
Thank you, Alice!
Our annual trek to visit the dinosaur footprints. This will never become old.
Grandpa and Peter spent alot of time walking together, mostly talking about history.
Liz is working in London, but came down for a few long weekends. Thank you for sharing your flat, all the travel and vacation time, and hosting us in London. You're the best sister and Aunt ever!
Our first football game. The boys were captivated!
Granny at a football game!
Lots of wind, cold wind and island energy!
Our favorite activity on Freshwater beach. Balancing chalk rocks.
And, snow! A rare event on the Isle of Wight.
Our friend Colin who now lives in an old fort
Low tide cave exploring
Tapnell Farm, and feeding the wallabies
Grandpa in the go-carts!
Island transport--- we loved watching the hovercraft. What a space-age vehicle!
We are establishing traditions, coming to same area each year. Going down a rabbit hole is one of them. Soon, the boys won't fit!

Real waves. Surf. Surfers. And, usually wet feet!
Peter's favorite place. The glass-making factory at the Needles. These craftsman are so skilled, and so patient with answering questions. Peter was mesmerized, and we could have stayed there for hours.
The cannons up at the Needles look-out
Grandpa, Peter, and Leif putting down a line (with bacon) to catch crabs. Leif calls it "crab hunting"
Grandpa
Sad goodbyes at the ferry. Thank you mum and dad for everything!
We miss you.
