It really has been a spectacular Fall. Only a few rainy days, and incredible colors and light. My favorite time of year. I wish we could have two more months!
The Pipeline Loop circle--mushrooms and berries.
I finally made it up the Heney Ridge Trail to enjoy the view over the other side to the Delta. I think this is my favorite hike in Cordova.. incredible rocks, waterfalls, colors. Lots to explore. I'd love to return one day and make a base-camp for a few days.
Thanks Melissa for making this happen xo
We used Kevin and Chelsea's truck and got our haul of firewood. An incredible hot, dry day.
Exploring the Lake Elesnier Trail to cool after after wood-cutting

Mum's desparate for an escape?
Colder mornings, and more indoor time for craft and reading
The Ski-hill to Crater Lake cut-off hike.. three mums, five kids under 5yrs old. This is one of my favorite solo hikes, and our second year with a group of kids. I'm starting to see a pattern... hiking with young kids takes about 3.5 times the time, and 5 times the amount of energy as solo hiking!
Seems like we can pull off this length adventure maybe 2-3 times a summer. But, they really are the highlights of the summer.
It's like walking with dogs.. the kids jump, skip, climb, backtrack.. and generally walk way further than we do. We provide snacks, more snacks, give lots of encouragement.. and carry all the gear. This hike took us 7 hours, and was really Leif's first real long solo hike. He only got carried the last 30 mins or so, and that was under duress!
Time to harvest the green tomatoes. Coastal Alaskan gardening!
Goodbye potluck for Chelsea, Kevin and girls.
We wish you happy and safe winter travels xo
