Late summer

We returned home in time for Peter's 8th birthday!  Celebrated on GI Joes island with a few friends, and in the lagoon with neighbors and another berry pie.
We love you, Peter!
Not the warmest weather, but we had lots of outdoor swimming

Sharks in Eccles Lagoon
Watching seals hunting pink salmon below the bulkhead
And, lots of black bears
A kid hike up to the Mt. Eyak ropes..  these kids are getting so capable, it's fun to see.
Biking in for the first day of school.

2nd grade for Peter, and Kindergarten for Leif.

A new chapter for the whole family.
As soon as school started, the weather got sunny!
Vera and I squeaked in a kayak on Sheridan Lake with our new freedom with kids at school
Lovely hike up in the Heney Meadows
Harvest time.  The kids dug up all the potatoes solo this year.
Leif harvested the onions
The boys are now pretty confident kayakers, and are OK solo in the lagoon at high tide as long as I'm in the yard and ready to jump in.  Fun to see how much joy and freedom these little kayaks have given them.
Adventure at 34 mile with Karen and Vera and kids.  With older kids and stronger hikers, new worlds are opening up, and it's exciting.  We're really excited to explore this area more in the future.
A great hike into sand dunes; space and harsh wildness
Calvin and Peter skipping home after hiking over 9 miles.
Canoe trip down the Eyak river; beautiful Fall light and colors
Return trip to 34 mile and Utopia Dunes with the family, on bikes!  Super fast route in, and incredible sand, light, and space.
Leif rode half, then jumped on the back of my bike for the last bit.  I've missed biking with a boy on my bike, and it was lovely to have that energy and communication while biking... even though Leif is now much more vocal and a great bike seat driver with opinions on route and speed etc.
Fat-biking in full rain-gear.  We're going for dryness not speed..
Back in the boat, and a return trip to Humpback Creek
We've been playing soccer on every beach we can, and the boys are obsessed.
Halloween trick and treating on Main Street. He's a bat.
Another hike up to the Ridge with Darcy, Morgan, and Sarah

Fall and early Winter

Our landing home after fish-camp was full, and we all had travel plans.  A little too much travel, but each was rich and important.  Peter ...
