It was a wet Fall. Really wet.
Our summer hope to do the ridge hike (two nights) again as a family was starting to look impossible.
So, when a weather window opened over a weekend.. we jumped on it
Inspired by you-tube movies of the Three Peak Challenge in Britain, we set out to do two mountains in two days.
Peter was the documenter, keeping track of distance and time. Leif ate chocolate.
Day One: Heney Ridge
Peter taking notes!
Cold mist and incredible Fall colors
And, a beautiful rainbow on our way home
Day Two: Sheridan Mountain
Beautiful trail through the forest
Up and Up.. past snow
Peter running
Leif striding
looking for berries
Free in the alpine
To the Sheridan Glacier overlook.
It was very windy and cold, and we didn't stay long, but the boys were in awe of the view. Their reaction made it all worthwhile.
Holding on in the wind..
And, downhill again..
Putting rocks on the cairns en route.
Not a marathon by any means, but we covered 18 miles in 18 hours of hiking!
With a lot of elevation. Such a fun family weekend.
Thank you to the Forest Service for such incredible trails.
